Originally called Contrology, Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s. He is quoted as saying it “develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit”.
Focusing on core strength and proper alignment, Pilates is a preventative system of movement teaching total body awareness. With a focus on quality of performance, muscles are strengthened while being lengthened, creating new and safe patterns of everyday movement.
The aches and pains from old muscle patterns can be quickly alleviated resulting in better posture, more energy and an improved quality of life. The whole body is conditioned, from head to toe creating balance.

“A man is as young as his spinal column.” - Joseph Pilates
Do you have Osteoporosis (a skeletal disorder where the strength of the bones is compromised and there is increased risk of fractures) or suffer from Osteoarthritis (a degenerative joint disease primarily affecting the cartilage in the joints causing pain and reduced motion)? Exercise strengthens muscles. With Pilates the focus is on safe, functional movement. Proper exercise strengthens bones and protects joints.
